On Monday, the whole group of Swedish universities went to ”Svea Nagar” – the part of Pune where a number of Swedish companies are located – for a visit to Sandvik. Sandvik is a Swedish company specialized in tooling, mining and materials technology, so it’s all about engineering. The General Manager for Sandvik Asia, Håkan Kingstedt gave us a very interesting presentation on India’s economic advancement and on Sandvik.

Dr Sanjay Basu, a former professor from an IIT, and a longtime Sandvik employee showed us some of Sandvik’s very advanced production techniques. Sandvik has been in India since 1960, having actually been invited to come to India by India’s then Prime Minister, Nehru. When asked if it would be good for Sandvik to recruit Indian students who have studied engineering in Sweden, Mr Kingstedt replied: that would be great.
Next stop for the Swedish delegation is Mumbai.
