Seeing the City like a Tourist

It is definitely strange that I live in Sweden, but I haven’t really experienced most of the tourist attractions the cities have to offer. As soon as someone comes to visit I start to look differently at all the familiar places around. What I usually walk past everyday becomes more foreign and exciting.

This weekend I am having a friend come visit from Canada. We met in university and have been traveling around together ever since. We even did an exchange together in Växjö only a couple years ago. While she has been in Sweden before, this is her first time in Uppsala. So, I am determined to show her all the best that Uppsala and student life has to offer.

So here is a little of what is on the schedule:

  1. A student nation pub-crawl. There is no better way to get a taste of Uppsala student life than to check out some of the famous nations. And, there is definitely no better way than to stop in for a drink at every nation all in one night. We have to try out them all!
  2. Have as many fikas as you can squeeze in a weekend. Catching up with an old friend over a hot coffee and something sweet is one of my favorite things to do.  And, what really is more Swedish than hanging out in a cozy cafe during these colder months.
  3. Mosey around all the city’s landmarks. There are so many things to see around town and the best way to do it is to take a relaxing stroll. Some of the stops will probably include the castle, cathedral, university, Fyris River, and botanical gardens.
  4. Eat a great meal downtown. It is not so often that I get to go out to eat at a nice restaurant, but a friend visiting from out of town is the perfect excuse. Great food and wine is essential to a good weekend away.

It’s not so often that I have friends come to visit, so when it does happen I want to make sure it’s a memorable trip. The only way to really see Uppsala at its best is to take a stroll around, have a few fikas and a great night on the town.

Its nice to read about your weekend tour. Uppsala is old town, features with old houses and museums, i think Linnaean Museum is another interesting place to see there.
