Our first stop for the night was at First Hotel Strand in Sundsvall where we got to dig into a typical Swedish breakfast which includes yogurt and sourmilk (Filmjölk) along with all types of nuts – pine nuts, sunflower seeds, walnuts, flax seeds, Brazilian nuts, almonds, and more – as well as various types of dried fruit.

I’m currently on a roadtrip to Sweden’s northernmost county, Norrbotten. While at the scenic rest area Rasta Tönnebro, I ran into a couple also travelling who were walking about 4-5 cute little Boston terriers along the small beach by the stop.

Having driven across Högakustenbron (High Coast Bridge) numerous times before, this time around, we decided to stop for fika, stretch our legs once more, and walk around the grounds of Hotell Höga Kusten – a nearby conference center. The land around this UNESCO Heritage region along the Gulf of Bothnia continues to rise every year.

Hamburger Stop In Sundsvall

Getting Hamburgers At MAX - Photography by Lola Akinmade ÅkerströmGetting Hamburgers At MAX - Photography by Lola Akinmade ÅkerströmGetting Hamburgers At MAX - Photography by Lola Akinmade ÅkerströmFor me, roadtrips are an excuse to totally pig out on junk food while traveling. Our hamburger stop was at Max (Sweden’s oldest hamburger chain) in Sundsvall, where one of the longest and most patient queues known to man was waiting. Mostly because food is always cooked to order. Not microwaved. And people (myself included) seem to be willing to queue for freshly-made food.
