I hardly put up Christmas trees though I’ll probably need to start doing so now that there’s a kid in the house.

Dotting squares, street corners, and neighborhoods all over Stockholm are small Christmas tree (julgrann) vendors with freshly cut pine trees for sale.

Here’s one such vendor camped out at Medborgarplatsen (Citizen Square) in Södermalm.

Norrbotten Calling

Driving to Northern Sweden - Photography by Lola Akinmade ÅkerströmDriving to Northern Sweden - Photography by Lola Akinmade ÅkerströmThere’s a distinctly “Northern Sweden” landscape here; one marked by sparsely-spaced pine trees (called “tall” in Swedish) and a few spruce trees as one drives north from Stockholm and other places south towards the arctic and subarctic parts of the country.

Norrbotten County (Norrbottens län), is Sweden’s northernmost county and also home to Luleå, Kiruna, and Swedish Lapland. With a few days off work, we decided to hit the road towards Luleå with multiple pit-stops along the way.
