Snow has finally arrived in Stockholm, though it’s of the melt-in-two-days variety. Over the weekend, we visited friends in Dalarö, a Southeastern suburb of Stockholm, for a cozy fika complete with wood-burning fireplace to get into the winter spirit despite the thin layer of snow.


I’m used to American-style potluck dinners where everyone brings already prepared dishes to the party. One of the things I’ve been enjoying lately with Swedish friends is what I’m calling “Do-it-yourself (D-I-Y) dinners” where everyone chips in with dinner duty – from cutting up veggies for salads to preparing various courses - all at the host’s home.
