You’ll probably be hearing more about this gooey pastry called semla in the next few weeks on various blogs here. Usually sold a few weeks leading up to Lent and mostly consumed on Fat Tuesday, semlor (plural) are designed to fatten you before fasting for 40 days. That didn’t stop my husband and I from digging into a couple semlor way before the season.

This is definitely the season for chowing down, and I was recently at a cookie-swap luncheon organized by the American Women’s Club held at the Rex Hotel. Lunch was prepared by Chef Kalle (pictured above, right), and for dessert, each lady brought cookies and cakes to swap with each other.

This weekend was the 10th annual chocolate festival held at Nordiska museet – an impressive gargantuan building on Djurgården. Lovers of chocolate were out in droves (I dare say, thousands) sampling truffles, pralines, all sorts of chocolate-y goodness as well as dipping treats into fountains of gooey white and milk chocolate.
You definitely know where I was.
