I recently stopped by the oldest café in Luleå – Metropol – known for its shrimp sandwiches (räksmörgås). Running since the 20s and a classic breakfast joint for workers on their way to work, Åsa (pictured in blue) has been working at the cafe since she was a teenager. The cafe has been in her family for decades – first owned by her grandmother, and then run by her aunt.

I recently visited a pretty cool cafe called Ruter Retro Café while in Northern Sweden. Located on an old military base in Boden, the café owned by Lena and Göran (portraits above) is chock-full of vintage memorabilia – from jukeboxes and old cameras to antique vanity sets and classic images from the 40s-60s.

Coffee break at Fjällgatans kaffestuga

I recently stopped by Fjällgatans kaffestuga with a girlfriend to dig into some blueberry-raspberry pie topped with vanilla ice-cream and some hot chocolate. Located on Fjällgatan and tucked away in a corner, this little outdoor coffee cottage (kaffestuga) has some impressive views overlooking Stockholm Harbor towards Djurgården.
