Showtime

I realize a majority of you are not based in Stockholm, but I’m hoping some of you are stopping by in the near future, and below are some shows I think you should go see if in town in May.
And if there is no Sweden on your horizon, consider these a few very good reasons to change that.
(And please help yourself to some music).

May 19 Me and My Army, Annexet (supporting Glasvegas)

Me and My Army (here with The Only One) is the latest project of Andreas Kleerup (who is better know as solo artist and as the producer/writer behind Robyn’s With Every Heartbeat)

or

May 19 Elias Krantz, Etablissemanget (free entry)

Elias Krantz – Tody Motmot (click here to download song) from the upcoming album Night Ice, out May 23.

May 20, Säkert!, Gröna Lund

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmu018b6QAU&feature=related
Får jag by Säkert! (or Annika Norlin as she is called, or Hello Saferide which is her moniker when she does music in English) writes clever (in a good way) lyrics in Swedish but I hope and think the music comes across even without the words. She pronounces them nicely, no?

May 21
Nottee, Debaser Slussen (with Das Pop)

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djBYLPgQBlE&feature=player_embedded
Nottee – Don’t Waste Your Light On Me (get it here)

And daytime Saturday you should also swing by Gärdet where there is a tiny little festival (don’t tell your friends because I shouldn’t be telling you) with a big bunch of bands playing…

Sibille Attar aka Little Red Corvette and also known from [ingenting] that I wrote about here.

including Little Red Corvette (<– video) and Mackaper (download one of their songs + a Michael Rother cover).

May 26 Serenades, Södra Teatern

Seremades is the new project from Shout Out Louds Adam Olenius and Markus Krunegård.
Get their first single Birds for free here

May 27, jj, Trädgården Under bron

If you didn’t the other day, download jj’s new single No One Can Touch Us Tonight for free here

The week that was

So, I’ve reached the third day at this my new job and let me tell you, it is a jungle out there.
People get up to a lot of stuff. Musically.

So I’ve decided to sum things up. Each week(ish) I’ll give you a greatest hits of sorts, a highly subjective best of the Swede music week that was.

I’ll start with this week.

This is some of what it had, and still has, to offer:

Lykke Li unveiled a new video for Sadness Is A Blessing. It stars herself, sporting some pretty long hair and a gorgeous white gown, and – as further testament to her good taste – Stellan Skarsgård, this new hero of mine.
The video is directed by Tarik Saleh and it’s a lot like Lykke – pretty, dramatic, fun and just a little bit weird.

Photographer Oscar Poulsen has spent some time with Swedish band [ingenting]. The result is an exhibition with photos, a little film and a possibly even smaller book. The exhibition Ett porträtt av [ingenting] opens this evening in Stockholm and runs til May 12. If you can’t make it, you can at least see further photos here. (Photo above obviously by Poulsen).
(If you’re not familiar with [ingenting], this is their lovely lovely hit song from 2009).

The Knife have announced a new album due out in 2012.
This is the first album from the duo since 2006′s Silent Shout so needless to say this is excellent news.

Labrador‘s got a new signing in 16 year old singstress Amanda Mair. Here’s her ”House” (<–download).

Watch the Robyn documentary that was broadcast on Swedish TV recently. In full and with English subtitles (part 2, 3 and 4).

Swedish Niva gets remixed by (non-Swedish) Sun Glitters.
Get the remix here: Niva – Boy from the sun (Sun Glitters remix) and watch the video for the original here.

Simian Ghost are streaming their new album here.

Oh, and if Satan I Gatan, the title of Veronica Maggio’s new album, had been in English it would have been called ‘Cor blimey’, no?

Have a lovely weekend folks!
