Christian Kjellvander’s philosophy

“You are welcome! Entre sans frapper….as they say in France”. That’s how my e-mail conversation with Christian Kjellvander ended a few days before we meet in his house, near Ystad in Skåne, in the southern part of Sweden.
It’s mid-June and days are longer than ever in the year.
I’m in a beautiful cottage close to the sea where Christian is about to build a recording studio to make his new album this summer. While I’m shooting him in this green field, his choice just seems obvious to me :
Silence. Infinite landscape. And the ocean breeze. Time can definitely stops here.
After the shooting, while having a coffee, I notice a luminous Earth globe standing on a wood beam on the very center of the house : “When you work here, alone, during the long cold winter nights, having a look to this blue ball sparkling in the night make every composing or recording problem becomes more relative.”

Chrisitan Kjellvander’s new album is out on November 10th!

I need someone to furnish me with 5 set-inductions for sweden. I need to incorporate this in a research I am doing at the moment about sweden. I will appreciate an earliest response. Thank you. Jim

i took the pics of the little witch ornaments for sale, but i was at a dinner party (steve’s house!) during the actual påskkärring (halloween-type thing). i’m thinking of making up for it tomorrow, though, by dressing up in the giant skirt and shawls for the actual easter celebration. i’m sure simon’s family will think it’s totally normal.

Very interesting I too wonder about the feathers maybe they do it to provide some color to the gloomy days when Spring isn’t very sunny and warm yet? Who knows…..

Första maj ÄR faktiskt Valborg, kolla vem som har namnsdag! (Actually, first of may IS Valborg, it’s the namnsdag (name of the day). Some googling tells me that Valborg has been in the calendar since first of may 1901, the origin was a german nun who lived in the sevenhundreds and later was declared a saint.

Well either way it sounds like a wonderful time and a long happy weekend.

Having lived through the weekend, I can safely say that this is definitely a weekend to experience in Sweden! We don’t do any of the bonfires/Walpurgis activities in the US, so it was all totally new to me, but I feel like the Swedes really take it to the next level with their Valborg celebrations!

Pretty funny that everyone refers to the Saturday as Valborg instead of Valborgsmässoafton! I think the actual day is overshadowed by the May Day celebrations now. Tell me, though, any idea why Sweden celebrates all its holidays on the day before the actual holiday? I would love a definitive answer!

It was great! You’ll have to experience it for yourself some day :)
