Royal Baby! Royal Baby! ROYAL BABY!

*Innnnnn and ooooooout. Innnnnn and ooooooout.Innnnnn and ooooooout.* Ok. I think I’m ready to speak normally now.

ROYALBABYROYALBABYROYALBABYROYALBABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, sorry. Maybe not.

Princess Shinylocks will have her day, but for now, let’s just talk about HRH Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, and the as-yet unnamed LITTLE PRINCESS!

Here are all the deets:

The birth announcement! Photo: Kungahuset Facebook Page

It says that Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess Victoria had a daughter at 4:26 a.m. on Thursday, February 23. (That’s today.) The baby was 51 cm tall (20 in tall) and 3280 g (7.2 lbs). Which is really exciting and all, but just wait until you see this video of Prince Daniel announcing the birth of his first daughter.

It’s all in Swedish, but if you skip to about 1:27, you’ll see the cutest thing ever. Prince Daniel must have gotten a little overwhelmed or strayed from the script because he said, “Mina känslor är all over the place,” a Swedish-English mix meaning ”My feelings are all over the place!” Adorable.

Also, you may notice that when he starts off, everyone is all quiet and rapt with attention and everything, and then the second he says he’s had a daughter, ahem I mean Princess, there are a few squeals that just burst out of grown adults who are also professional journalists. You don’t get that everyday.

Only a few tabloids managed to get the scoop in print, but Aftonbladet.se and TheLocal.Se are both doing their best to track every second of the new princess’ life.

Top left, Their Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel are on their way home — “with their little princess.” Top right is a photo of the new parents as they left the hospital, which they also posted on Facebook. (See it larger here.) Seriously, how can she walk out looking like that? Aren’t you supposed to be totally incapacitated from the inside out?

Princess Power. It’s real.

Bottom right in the photo, you can see that while Prince Daniel was taking car of his two leading ladies, his car was run into by another car and then got a parking ticket, which is pretty hilarious in a certain light. The article was careful to note that he had not driven or parked the car there; it was the mistake of an underling! Who shall surely be paying the fine.

You can keep up with the latest on The Local’s Live Blog, where news and commentary is being uploaded as we speak. Princess Cakes are flying out of bakeries in honor of the little one (for an in-depth history of the Princess Cake, check out “Princess Cake Demystified” on SemiSwede here).

Most exciting for the bettors out there is, of course, the new Princess’ name. Desiree, Kristina, Ingrid, and Märta are leading the pack with Anna at the bottom for those who love to play the long odds. You can throw in your suggestions on Twitter at #royalbabynames.

    Hi Kate!

While this has nothing to do with this specific post, I just feel I have to commend you!

I found your blog just the other week and I must say that as a native Swede I find it very entertaining and interesting. It’s top-class infotainment! It’s highly educating to see Sweden from your perspective. I like it a lot!

Lastly, I just wanted to add this: http://www.slayradio.org/mastering_swedish.php
It is a British radio show (a few years old) in which the host is supposed to learn Swedish. Quite hilarious. It sprung to mind as I read your posts about Swedish words/expressions!

Thanks again for this great blog! Keep up the good work!

    Sincerely
    Erik

PS: I’m totally with you on the greatness of our pastry holidays! Hope you had a semla on Fettisdagen! ;)
