Carolina Krupinska

CAROLINA KRUPINSKA
As a traveler aficionado Krupinska draws from a mix of global influences and explores the adventure and freedom in her artistic work. She is a curious and creative soul who breath world-wide cultures and constantly let them inspire her work and creative thinking.
Growing up amongst a family of renowned architects, Carolina was brought up as an aesthetic dreamer. As a young girl, she early developed a passion for design, drawing and photography.
Soon after graduating from high school she jumped on the first flight to London and kicked in the doors at famous St. Martin’s College of Art & Design, to study graphic design and magazine production. Upon return to Sweden and more studying, she was drawn to Warszaw to live and connect with her background and Polish heritage.
Since her professional debut a few years back she has worked with clients such as Helly Hansen, Lexus, Bang & Olufsen and Ramlösa and more.
Her simplistic, yet emotional work leaves an imprint long after laying your eyes upon them. Above a series of minimalist illustrations that clearly demonstrate Krupinska’s talent in minimalist art and playful expressions.

A few weeks ago I had coffee with Carolina Krupinska at Bakeri, a cute coffe place at Whyte Avenue in Williamsburg to discuss her artistic influences and expressions. During our conversation Krupinska described the importance of New York’s vibrant atmosphere had to her artistic work. Living in New York really helped me grew as an artist, mostly because of all the resources and creative outlets available for artists, but also for the inspirations I manage to find in every corner of the city, Krupinska explains. After living in New York for 3 years she truly established herself in both her fields; graphic design and art. And she has her social skills to thank for a huge network of creative spirits in New York.
We also got into an inspiring discussion about our favorites from the Swedish arts and culture scene.
Here is Carolina Krupinska’s list on Swedish talents that inspired her work:

Swedish musician:
Karin Dreijer, singer in The Knife and Fever Ray

Swedish artist:
Johan Inger, dancer and choregrapher for Cullbergabaletten

Swedish fashion designer:
Behnaz Aram

Nina Persson does HOPE

Here’s another post dedicated to a Swedish music/fashion collab. Two weeks ago I attended the launch event of Swedish fashion brand HOPE’s latest line at stylist Ace Hotel located in Manhattan. I enjoyed the evening with a bunch of stylish people in the know curious to see the latest achievement of two talents from Sweden’s culture scene: Nina Persson of The Cardigans and A camp plus fashion label HOPE. The event was hosted to promote the capsule collection HOPE did with Nina Persson for Autumn/Winter 2010 collection.
In addition to an interesting display of contemporary garments, free drinks and snacks plus a performance from Miss Person herself was included in the event.
Perssons impeccable style together with HOPE’s signature elements of bold details, minimalistic expressions and excellent tailoring is a love affair between both talents, it’s definitely deemed for success.
The vintage inspired coat with fur collar and the ballerina-inspired skirt are my two favorites.

Here are some pictures of the event and Nina Persson’s performance:

The Sonnets + Tres Bien Shop

Here’s my post about the collaboration of Swedish electro pop group The Sonnets and online fashion retailer Tres Bien Shop. Originally posted in The Swede Beat Magazine.

The beauty of Swedish music and fashion amazingly rejoins in the collaborative video Short story/Morning run with Swedish soul/pop band The Sonnets and Très Bien Shop, the online provider of brand such as Our Legacy, Hope, A.P.C, Comme Des Garcons and more.

The Sonnets describe their music as to Dazed Digital as “Something bright and pure and kind of blue.” , which is clearly manifested in this minimalist expression of Swedish music and fashion.
It’s a calm and mellow art piece to rest your eyes at. The gentleman running on the beach dressed in a classic outfit of navy windbreaker, kaki shorts and white crisp boat shoes with the wind in his hair is as fresh and fantastic as the summers first breeze.

The seaside setting and sensual summer vibes comes together in Sebastian Said with remix by Montauk, our favorite makers of airy, summery electro pop.

Cheap Shades

Clairvoyant by Cheap Monday Part II is the latest line of sunglasses from Swedish denim giant Cheap Monday. The new line of vintage inspired shades range from the classic aviator style to the 90ies inspired circular style in tons of summery colors – all unisex. The sunglasses bargain for $35 in Cheap Monday’s flag ship stores located in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Copenhagen. Fashion boutique Alter carries the line stateside, located just three blocks from my house in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I no longer need to beg swedes on transatlantic route to buy cheap monday items for me. Now I can find some stylish Swedish imports in my very own polish hood in Brooklyn. How convenient! :)
