Celebrating Cinnamon Bun Day with babies and buns

In celebration of Cinnamon Bun Day, I grabbed some kanelbullar and vanilla ice-cream, my friend Anja baked a yummy apple  pie, and we convened at our mutual friend’s, Laura’s place to fika our hearts out.

Tracing roots in Norrbotten

It’s currently raining today in Stockholm and I’m holed up at home all day, but I wanted to share a few pictures I took while visiting the in-laws in Northern Sweden. My husband and I took my father-in-law to the tiny village (population less than 240) where he was born to see if we could find the house he grew up in.

Not only did we find it, its new owners let us in to look around and it was quite cool to find out that they kept the old coal stove too – mostly for decorative purposes.

It’s definitely that time of the year when there’s usually some sort of race going on every weekend. That time between late Summer and early Autumn when temperatures are cool and mild enough not to give you heat stroke while running.

And last week was the start of a popular race(actually, the world’s largest cross country race), Lidingöloppet, that spans a couple days with various categories including a children’s race.  The cross-country race takes runners through one of Stockholm’s most beautiful (and expensive) islands – Lidingö.

Dumplings and chicken on Kungsholmen

My total foodie friend Sandra suggested we check out a small joint (Jin & Peeters) along Kungsholms Strand that served only three items on their minimalist menu – Dumplings, Rotisserie Chicken, and Belgian Waffles. Intrigued by the odd pairing of dumplings and chicken, we tried it out and were pleasantly surprised. That chicken – sliced right off the spit – tasted as juicy and succulent as it looks.

In addition to being a photographer, I also write about travel and place, and last week, I was invited (along with various travel industry professionals and airlines) to a workshop organized by Dagama Travelweb and held at the swanky Stockholm nightclub – Collage.

From salsa dancing and freshly made Brazilian Caipirinhas to various airline swag, it was a good opportunity to network and mingle with others in the business.

Ladies’ night dinner at Sonjas grek

Once a month, I often meet up with a couple expat girlfriends for “ladies’ night” where we pick a restaurant and have dinner together. It truly feels like an extended family; a sisterhood of sorts in which we laugh, cry, support, and just enjoy each other’s company. Last week, we were at Sonjas grek - a Greek restaurant located in Södermalm, Stockholm.

From tigers and bears to wildebeest and some frisky zebras getting busy (not displayed for obvious reasons), here are a few more photographs from my time at Kolmården Animal Park (Djurpark).

Facing Sharks at Tropicarium
