Most of last week was spent in Kampala, capital of Uganda, home to hundreds of Swedish Institute (SI) Alumni over the years.
Our first event after arrival was naturally to host the first alumni gathering in Uganda, arranged by the Swedish Embassy and co-hosted together with the Swedish Institute at the residence of the Swedish Ambassador to Uganda, Mr.Urban Andersson. SI:s Director General, Mrs Annika Rembe, attended the event and expressed the importance of continued Alumni relations and connections with Sweden. As Manager of SI:s Alumni relations, I was delighted that over 30 alumni currently in Uganda attened the event. SI Alumni can be found in a wide varuety of feilds as Professors, researchers or as professionals in private- or health sectors, some in financial investment, all gathered to network and revitalize their contacts with Sweden.
The focal point of our Second day in Uganda was “Sweden Day at Makerere University” in Kampala. We estimated that an overwhelming 1.300 students passed by the Sweden day venue all curious about studies and Scholarship opportunities to Sweden. During the day 6 SI Alumni who had just returned from Sweden joined us in discussion panels and shared their experience on studying in Sweden, they held two presentations on the topic of studying in Sweden, making a truly important contribution to our Sweden Day. Niklas Dahlberg, Program Manager for the “Study Scholarship programme” held a few presentations on scholarship opportunities in Sweden.
