Kenyan Alumni Network introduces new Think Tank

The Swedish Institute Alumni Network in Kenya (SiANK) is a new think-tank, comprised by former Kenyan students or researchers who have studied in Sweden.

On Saturday 30 July SiANK held a forum entitled SWEDENT The making of a global leader to explore areas where the alumni can play in an important role in enhancing knowledge and coming up with creative, sustainable and innovative solutions for economic and social development in Kenya, Sweden and globally.

Dorothy Ansgar, the Head of SiANK, introduced Sweden by highlighting the Swedish culture and system, followed by videos (see links below) on important aspects of Sweden and the Swedish culture, how to feel at home in Sweden, fika (a traditional Swedish coffee break) and university life in Sweden.

The night’s key speakers, Dr. Fibian Lukalo, the Director of Research and Advocacy at the National Lands Commission and Antony Kirori, CEO, Green Pencils, Kenya discussed leadership opportunities with emphasis on research and innovation as aspects of leadership that are vital in the process of transforming a local perspective of leadership to a global perspective.

The evening was an opportunity for alumni members to learn from the guest speakers in their areas of expertise, to network and further strengthen SiANK, and lay a strong foundation for the members to seek leadership opportunities, and advance initiatives for personal growth as well as societal and global development.

Almost 40 people attended the event, ten of which were new students on their way to Sweden this fall. The Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi and the Swedish Institute along with friends of Swedish Institute Alumni in Kenya especially wish the new students a very warm welcome and good luck with your studies!
