For the third time the Embassy of Sweden in Jakarta and the Swedish Institute together with the Alumni Swedia organization held a pre-departure event for Indonesian students admitted to Swedish universities. This year’s event took place on Saturday 14 May 2016 at Ciputra Artpreneur in Jakarta and was attended by more than 80 students and 20 alumni.
More than 200 Indonesian students were admitted to Swedish universities this year. Though we still have no information on the final number of students who are actually going until the departure time, we are happy to have 21 recipients of the Swedish Institute Scholarship and more than 30 LPDP scholarship awardees as well as many others in the confirmed list. This pre-departure event was aimed at equipping these students with everything they need to know about life in Sweden before their departure. On 30 July the Embassy of Sweden in Jakarta invited alumni and students of Swedish universities to an evening of meeting old and new friends at Istituto Italiano di Cultura Jakarta.
With support from the Swedish Institute, this annual gathering of alumni, current and new students of Swedish universities provided an opportunity for learning about, exchanging, and reminiscing experiences studying (and living) in Sweden. 30 July happened to be the International Day of Friendship, too. “Countdown to Sweden”, Beijing
On 28 April (Beijing) and 30 April (Shanghai) Chinese students accepted to Swedish Universities got the chance to meet with Chinese alumni at “pre-departure events” organised by the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing and the Swedish Consulate General in Shanghai together with the Swedish Institute.
The events not only provided an opportunity for prospective students to speak to alumni and Swedish university representatives, but also a chance for Chinese alumni to meet with new and old alumni friends. Read more » >>

On August 14, chargé d’affaires Karin Wallensteen invited new SI scholarship holders to a pre-departure event at the Swedish Residence.
During the evening, Ethiopians who have previously studied at Swedish universities shared their experiences of life in the north and good-humouredly reported on getting used to snow and ice, queuing, differences in teaching and learning methods as well as using public transport. The contact person of the Swedish Alumni Association in Ethiopia, Dawit Mazengia invited the students to join the association on coming back to Ethiopia.
