6-8 August 2015 the first of three Regional SI Alumni Forums on the theme of innovation and entrepreneurship was held in Kampala, Uganda. The three day event gathered 41 alumni from 8 countries in the East Africa region for a program of lectures, study visits and a reception at the Embassy of Sweden in Kampala. SI alumni from Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda attended the event. Read more » >>

The role of entrepreneurship is vital for both economic growth of a country and personal development of a person. There is plenty of opportunities for Belarusian youth to become successful entrepreneurs, many of them avoid starting up the business referring to a number of barriers. Meanwhile, the country has a number of prerequisites for starting up a business: good infrastructure, easy tax rules for private entrepreneurs, cheap labor and access to 200 million of customers within the trade union with neighboring countries. Below is an invitation from SI Alumnus Pavel Makhnatch to an alumni event in Minsk on 24 May. This event was granted funding in the first call for applications in 2015.
A workshop on “Entrepreneurship as a lifestyle: inspiring success stories from young creatives” will take place on 24th of May in Minsk. The event is designed to inspire young people to take on a business endeavour. Several start-up entrepreneurs will share their success stories and valuable experience of doing business in Belarus and internationally. Part of the event will be dedicated to practical aspects of creativity and innovation for entrepreneurship.
