Please find below a report from Katsiaryna Syrayezhkina on an SI Alumni job shadowing activity held in Minsk in November:
20 mentors and 20 students participated in the Job Shadow Days during the week of November 17th, 2014 in Minsk, Belarus. This CSR initiative was implemented in cooperation with the Association of European Business.
Job Shadowing is a way to get acquainted with professions and explore career options. Students had an opportunity to accompany working professionals (mentors) for one full work day in their everyday work environment. Job shadowing also gave students a chance to ask any questions they have about the job and how to prepare for it.
SI programmes alumni in their fourth or fifth year of study (Marketing, Law, Economics / Finance, Design and Architecture students) saw the current application of what they are learning, learned firsthand from adults who have careers in a variety of occupational fields and are now able to adjust their academic plans (optional subjects, graduate thesis topic, traineeship programmes).
Mentors provided students with information on their companies’ brand and philosophy, professional opportunities within given companies, and also had an opportunity to remember why they chose their career.
17 mentors and students participated in the summing-up meeting on November 26th to exchange their impressions and short-term experience gained within Job Shadow Days.
