Alumni events in China, October 2015

Alumni events were organised in Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai in October by the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing, Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai and the Sweden Alumni Network in China with support from the Swedish Institute. Alumni events held in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai

Networking workshop at the Nordic Centre in Beijing

Alumni events were held in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai last week as Swedish universities and Swedish Institute representatives were in China to attend the China Education Expo.

On 23 October more than 70 alumni from 18 Swedish universities attended a workshop on networking and career building at the Nordic Centre in Beijing. The event was organised by the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing with support from the Swedish Institute. Ms Emily Roblin, founder and Managing Partner of LEAP, engaged the alumni in a dynamic workshop that equipped the attendees with valuable networking skills and helped expand their social and professional networks. The alumni also got a little taste of Sweden as they were served Swedish-inspired sandwiches from Modo and delicious cinnamon buns baked by the Nordic Centre staff. Launch of a new alumni network in Mexico – Alumni México-Suecia (AMS)

On September 26, The Embassy of Sweden together with the Swedish Institute and with the help of a few driving spirits launched the Alumni México-Suecia Network (AMS). Around a hundred people, including about 80 former students in Sweden, attended the launch together with representatives from Chalmers University, Lund University, Malmö University and coordinators from several Mexican universities such as ITAM, Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Universidad Anahuac and UNAM. The Swedish Institute was represented by Andres Alvarez and Johanna Lundin.

The event took place at the residence of the Swedish Ambassador, Jörgen Persson. AMS Steering Committee held a presentation of the purpose and objectives, and invited the alumni to take an active role in the association’s board. Andrés and Johanna presented the Swedish Institute alumni activities in general, and spoke about the importance of creating and supporting alumni associations around the world. The presentations were followed by a question and answer session where the great interest and commitment shown to the association and to carry out future activities, not only in Mexico City but also in other cities (eg, in the country’s second largest city, Guadalajara, from where some former students had traveled all six hours just to be on the launch). This was followed by a Networking session where former students as well as Swedish and Mexican universities were given the opportunity to make new contacts. Swedish snacks were served.

The launch of the AMS was made in conjunction with the Study Fair Europosgrados where the Embassy of Sweden, SI, and the above three Swedish universities attended. The fair, which lasted two days in Mexico City and a day in Monterrey attracted around 9,000 visitors!

Inauguration of Innovative Sweden Exhibition and i3L Indonesia

Today, May 6th 2014, is an innovation feast in Indonesia as the Innovative Sweden Exhibition and i3L (Indonesia International Institute for Life Sciences) are officially launched. i3L is a pioneer in the Indonesia’s life science innovation and research efforts. It pursues boundary-spanning and applied research in medicine, biotechnology, and food science in close collaboration with Karolinska Institute and the Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences (SLU). Held at the newly built i3L campus at Pulomas Jakarta, the inauguration event was started in the morning with a press conference where many major media in Indonesia covered the conference.
