On September 26, The Embassy of Sweden together with the Swedish Institute and with the help of a few driving spirits launched the Alumni México-Suecia Network (AMS). Around a hundred people, including about 80 former students in Sweden, attended the launch together with representatives from Chalmers University, Lund University, Malmö University and coordinators from several Mexican universities such as ITAM, Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Universidad Anahuac and UNAM. The Swedish Institute was represented by Andres Alvarez and Johanna Lundin.
The event took place at the residence of the Swedish Ambassador, Jörgen Persson. AMS Steering Committee held a presentation of the purpose and objectives, and invited the alumni to take an active role in the association’s board. Andrés and Johanna presented the Swedish Institute alumni activities in general, and spoke about the importance of creating and supporting alumni associations around the world. The presentations were followed by a question and answer session where the great interest and commitment shown to the association and to carry out future activities, not only in Mexico City but also in other cities (eg, in the country’s second largest city, Guadalajara, from where some former students had traveled all six hours just to be on the launch). This was followed by a Networking session where former students as well as Swedish and Mexican universities were given the opportunity to make new contacts. Swedish snacks were served.
The launch of the AMS was made in conjunction with the Study Fair Europosgrados where the Embassy of Sweden, SI, and the above three Swedish universities attended. The fair, which lasted two days in Mexico City and a day in Monterrey attracted around 9,000 visitors!
