We gathered to celebrate threefold: celebration of the Swedish national day (well, one day early, but close enough right?), of the 70 years since SI was founded in 1945, and to celebrate the start of a brand new network for SI Alumni in Sweden! SI Alumni study visit to Hammarby Sjöstad

Please find below a report from Aleh Kliatsko and Andriy Malovanyy regarding the SI Alumni organised study visit to Hammarby Sjöstad in Stockholm in November:

Participants at GlashusEtt – the environmental information centre for Hammarby Sjöstad

Hammarby Sjöstad is a still developing residential area in Stockholm that implemented principles of ecological sustainability in its design, organization and functioning.

For the first time I (Aleh Kliatsko) visited GlashusEtt (the centre for environmental information and communication in Hammarby Sjöstad) as part of my Master’s Programme in Sustainable Technology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 2007.

Last year I had an opportunity to visit Hammarby Sjöstad again, since I was coordinating an international project that is called “Tour into Swedish sustainable lifestyle” organized by NGO Global Playground Stockholm together with Belarusian NGO “Ecohome”.

While planning the SI Alumni event and considering previous successful experience, I and Andriy came up with an idea to make this event more practically oriented and organize study visit to Hammarby Sjöstad. Read more » >>

Report from alumni event on social entrepreneurship in Sweden

Ekaterina Tarasova was awarded a grant for organizing an alumni event on social entrepreneurship in the first of two calls for applications in 2014. Below you’ll find her report from the event:

The workshop organized by Nordkonst provided an opportunity for SI Alumni and current scholarship holders to meet experienced social entrepreneurs and to discuss various issues related to social entrepreneurship. The broad definition of social entrepreneurship gave an opportunity to discuss the theme very broadly and to approach it from various angles.
