Alumni event in Nairobi!

The below article comes from Aleh Kliatsko who organised an alumni networking event at the Embassy of Sweden on 5 November and a study visit to UN-Habitat on 6 November.

On Thursday, November 5th, the Swedish Embassy in Nairobi held an alumni networking event for former Swedish Institute scholarship holders from Kenya. The event gathered 24 people at the residence of Johan Borgstam, the Ambassador of Sweden to Kenya. The topic of the event was ‘Role of NGOs to empower youth’. Aleh Kliatsko, organizer of the SI Alumni event, shared his experience from NGO Global Playground Stockholm. Alumni report from the Middle East & Africa Summit 2015

10 SI alumni were given the chance to attend the Middle East & Africa Summit on 20-21 October in Dubai. The Middle East & Africa Summit is a networking event for Swedish companies interested in trade with the Middle East and Africa regions.

“The concept of a ‘region’ is changing, from a self-contained, well-defined geographical area, to trade nodes and hubs, directing flows and connecting markets”, says H.E. Jan Thesleff, Ambassador of Sweden to the UAE. “Dubai’s importance, as illustrated by its successful Expo 2020 bid, is thus far greater than its objective size or its home market. Invitation to Regional SI Alumni Forum in Uganda!

The Swedish Institute Alumni Network in Uganda together with the Swedish Institute and the Embassy of Sweden in Uganda has the pleasure of inviting you to the first Regional SI Alumni Forum event. The event will take place in Uganda from 6-8 August 2015 at the Imperial Beach Botanical Hotel Entebbe.

SI alumni from Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, Malawi and Ethiopia will attend the event. Speakers include the Ambassador of Sweden, H.E. Urban Andersson, delegates from the Swedish Institute, the Embassy of Sweden in Uganda, Swedish/local Companies in the region, and SI alumni.

The Regional SI Alumni Forum is held on the theme of Entrepreneurship. The programme will tentatively include presentations on the following topics:

  • “The Entrepreneurial spirit in an emerging East African Community: The Swedish contribution”
  • “Integration, Governance/ Leadership and Business: A tripod approach   “
  • “How to succeed as an Entrepreneur in East Africa: A success story from the region”

Participants will also get to make study visits to three companies. There will be plenty of opportunities for networking with participating SI alumni.

There are still 12 slots available:
1 for Ethiopia (full transport and accommodation)
1 for Rwanda (full transport and accommodation)
10 for Ugandan participants who can attend the event for one day on 7 August.

Invitation to Alumni in Tanzania and Kenya: participate in Africa Student Fairs 2014, Dar es Salaam 28-29 July and Nairobi 1-2 August, 2014

The Swedish Institute will visit Tanzania on 28-29 July 2014 and Kenya on 1-2 August 2014 to attend the Africa Student Fairs Ed Expo in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi. The purpose of the visit is to market Sweden as a Study destination and increase awareness about the SI Study Scholarships to Tanzanian students.
