First alumni event in Chisinau, Moldova

On Monday November 23rd, the Swedish Embassy held its first alumni event for Swedish Institute scholarship holders in Moldova. The event gathered 20 alumni at the residence of Signe Burgstaller, Sweden’s ambassador to Moldova, who hosted the event.

The alumni who attended had all been in Sweden through SI scholarships. Some of them had been there for an extended time and held degrees from Swedish universities, while others had only been in Sweden for two weeks through the SI Summer Academy for Young Professionals. For some of the alumni, the Swedish experience was a recent one, while others had been in Sweden many years ago.

The alumni all had positive experiences from Sweden and many especially appreciated the Swedish approach to education in where theoretical knowledge is integrated with practical experience. The myth that Swedes are reserved and shy had also been discredited.

The alumni reception at the Swedish residence marks a start for an intensified alumni work at the Swedish Embassy in Chisinau. In the future we aim to arrange alumni events on a regular basis. This Monday we met many interesting alumni and we hope to build on their experiences in order to further strengthen our alumni work. We also hope to reach out to a wider category of alumni, in addition to SI scholarship holders.
