On 11 and 13 April respectively, the Embassy in Beijing and the Consulate in Shanghai hosted students accepted to study in Sweden for pre-departure events. The events targeted Chinese students who have been accepted to one of eight Swedish universities. The universities participated either with representatives in China or through video conference, and conveyed important information to the potential students, as well as answered questions.
In Beijing, an alumni panel was hosted in cooperation with the alumni network SANC, where alumni answered questions about studying in Sweden. After introduction and information sessions, around 35 invited alumni guests joined the party to socialize with students during a buffet dinner at the hotel.
Similarly in Shanghai, the afternoon started withpresentations from the Swedish Institute and the Consulate including basic information about Sweden and practical information such as the procedures of applying for residence permit. A panel, consisting of 6 Chinese alumni, then shared their experiences of what it was like studying in Sweden and what career opportunities graduates might receive after their study.
The evening was rounded up with food, mingle and a crash course in networking where additionally 60 alumni were invited to be able to answer questions and share information about their experience. Students have been divided into 3 groups according to the result of a survey. After the competition about the knowledge of Sweden, one group won their prize. Alumni had the chance to meet prospective Chinese students who will be studying in Sweden at the same university they attended. Through the story sharing experience, Alumni recalled real details about their everyday lives in Sweden.
The participating Swedish Universities were: Karolinska Institutet, Royal Institute of technology (KTH), Lund University, Linköping University, Linnæus University, Stockholm School of Economics, University of Gothenburg and Umeå University.
