Sustainable lifestyle: small actions, big difference?

The below report comes from Katsiaryna Syrayezhkina who organized an event on sustainable lifestyle in September.

A seminar on “Sustainable lifestyle: small actions, big difference?” was organized on September 16th in cooperation with the Association of European Business and ODB-Brussels (Belgium).

The main topics were as follows:

-          Sustainable lifestyle (Swedish experience)

-          Sustainable consumption

-          Ecological footprint

-          Eco-friendly initiatives

-          Sustainable mobility/transport

-          Energy efficient housing

During the seminar, experts, representatives of business, governmental agencies and NGOs discussed the barriers, triggers and motivators on the way to healthier choices and a better quality of life with a minimum level of use of natural resources and toxic materials. The Swedish and Belarusian experts spoke about “circular” economy and the economy of “sharing”, links between of “couchsurfing” and cycling infrastructure to sustainable development, the EU sustainable practices and partnerships between businesses and NGOs. The event participants had an opportunity to compare the Belarusian and European experience.

An excursion to “BelVTI” (recycling plant) http://www.belvti.com/eng took place on the same day. The participants saw how to the collection and recycling of old appliances and electronic equipment, batteries and fluorescent lamps are organised.
