On August 14, chargé d’affaires Karin Wallensteen invited new SI scholarship holders to a pre-departure event at the Swedish Residence.
During the evening, Ethiopians who have previously studied at Swedish universities shared their experiences of life in the north and good-humouredly reported on getting used to snow and ice, queuing, differences in teaching and learning methods as well as using public transport. The contact person of the Swedish Alumni Association in Ethiopia, Dawit Mazengia invited the students to join the association on coming back to Ethiopia.
Over 64 Ethiopian students were selected for scholarships to study in Sweden this year. Students will go to a wide range of universities, from Umeå in the north to Malmö in the south, studying such different topics as Solar Energy Engineering, Sustainable Urban Design, Computer Science as well as International Migration and Ethnic Relations. In total about 700 students globally were chosen for scholarships to study at Master level in Sweden, making Ethiopians the second biggest group of students.
