Alumni Swedia Break Fast Gathering & Pre Departure Session

As the Ramadan month has commenced,  Muslims in Indonesia observe the Fast of Ramadan. During this month, one will usually get lots of invitations to break the fast together and attend a small gathering. It’s very common that these invitations are extended to the non-Muslims as well.

Alumni Swedia in Indonesia also organised a small break fast gathering combined with informal pre-departure sharing session for future students who will study in Swedish universities. The event took place on July 10, 2014 at Bumbu Desa Pasaraya Blok M, South of Jakarta with 22 attendees.

Not much of food, a lot of sharing :-)

The thirst and hunger after a day of fasting apparently was not comparable to the thirst and hunger of the new students wanting to know more about Sweden. There was not much food involved during the gathering but there was definitely lots of shared stories!

The new students were given plenty of time to ask their university alumni about life in Sweden, Swedish education system, how to survive the cold, what to do and not to do, basically how to seize the day and make the most out of their future Swedish experience.

Some of the new students who came for the event are scholarship holders of Swedish Institute Scholarship or Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education-LPDP scholarship. They will be going to various universities in Sweden such as Karolinksa Institute, KTH, JIBS, Uppsala University, University of Gothenburg and Lund University.

Amreta Sidik (second from the right) gave an update about the upcoming Embassy of Sweden in Jakarta events

Towards the end of the day, Amreta Sidik from the Embassy of Sweden in Jakarta shared several updates both for Alumni and new students. The Embassy is also going to conduct a  pre-departure briefing & alumni gathering on July 16th, 2014 located at Erasmus Huis, Jl. HR Rasuna Said Kav. S-3 South of Jakarta.

If you miss the gathering on the 10th, make sure you come to the one on the 16th! If you already attended the gathering on the 12th, we will still recommend you to come on the 16th and get to know more about Sweden from both alumni and Embassy staff.

For those who do not reside around Jakarta, Alumni Swedia will also try to accommodate your need. This year, Alumni Swedia plans to organise similar pre-departure sharing sessions in two other cities in Indonesia which are Yogyakarta and Surabaya. It will be the first time for the two cities to have such gathering, thanks to Alumni Swedia members.
